Handover & Transfer Checklist

A structured checklist for planning the transfer of websites, domains, channels, software products and apps.

Every asset has a different transfer process. The safest approach is to agree on a written handover plan before changing ownership or access.

1. Confirm the scope

List every asset included in the deal: domain, hosting, source code, product files, databases, store assets, social accounts, app-store records, customer data, analytics, documentation and support obligations.

2. Check transfer restrictions

Confirm the current rules of the registrar, app store, social platform, licence provider, payment processor or other service involved in the transfer.

3. Agree on the sequence

Define when payment, access changes, ownership verification and credential rotation occur. Do not send secret transfer codes in a public listing.

4. Verify receipt

The buyer should confirm that each promised asset is accessible and controlled as agreed before the handover is considered complete.

5. Record post-transfer support

If the seller will provide transition support, document the scope, duration and communication channel.
